"A few days ago I discovered the free download Livestation
http://www.livestation.com/ (for Mac users like me, too!), and have
been watching streaming television coverage from Gaza by English Al
Jazeera, whose reporters are actually in Gaza, not just hanging out in
Israel like the U.S. "reporters." There are lots of other international
broadcasting networks on Livestation, too. Now we can see exactly what
the rest of the world sees, in real time, not just on youtube,
unfiltered by our corporate media. -- It is beyond
heartbreaking to see war crimes as they happen, carried out by our
client state Israel with weapons our taxes have paid for. There is not
much more to say, except God help us, we are complicit in a new
holocaust. Israel is carrying out a slaughter of civilians in a cage. I
think that their universal military service in Israel has created a
nation of people who have been carefully trained to commit atrocities
without remorse. The relatively few Israelis who are speaking out
against this carnage deserve our great respect for their courage and
humanity." -- *petrkrop*

modesty, you give alms and do charity, but what is under your scarf is
dedicated to the sanctity of Jewish land, taking precedence over the
sanctity of human life, whosoever life that is, then you are not my
sister. You might be my enemy. A good Arab or a righteous gentile will
be a brother or sister to me. A wicked man, even of Jewish descent, is
my adversary, and I would stand on the other side of the barricade and
fight him to the end.” -- *

Israel brought Gaza to the brink of humanitarian catastrophe
Must Read - A
quote...."Wednesday 7 January 2009 -- Oxford professor of
international relations Avi Shlaim served in the Israeli army and has
never questioned the state's legitimacy. But its merciless assault on
Gaza has led him to devastating conclusions. -- The only way to make
sense of Israel's senseless war in Gaza is through understanding the
historical context. Establishing the state of Israel in May 1948
involved a monumental injustice to the Palestinians. British officials
bitterly resented American partisanship on behalf of the infant state.
On 2 June 1948, Sir John Troutbeck wrote to the foreign secretary,
Ernest Bevin, that the Americans were responsible for the creation of a
gangster state headed by "an utterly unscrupulous set of leaders". I
used to think that this judgment was too harsh but Israel's vicious
assault on the people of Gaza, and the Bush administration's complicity
in this assault, have reopened the question."
War
of Choice: How Israel
Manufactured the Gaza Escalation
Must Read - A
quote...."Steve Niva | January 7, 2009 -- Israel has repeatedly claimed
that it had "no choice" but to wage war on Gaza on December 27 because
Hamas had broken a ceasefire, was firing rockets at Israeli civilians,
and had "tried everything in order to avoid this military operation,"
as Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni put it. -- This claim, however, is
widely at odds with the fact that Israel's military and political
leadership took many aggressive steps during the ceasefire that
escalated a crisis with Hamas, and possibly even provoked Hamas to
create a pretext for the assault. This wasn't a war of "no choice," but
rather a very avoidable war in which Israeli actions played the major
role in instigating." --

January, 2009 -- On February 29 last year the BBC's website reported

nine revisions in the next twelve hours. Before the day was over, the
headline would read "Gaza militants 'risking disaster'". (The story has
since been revised again with an exculpatory note added soft-pedalling
Vilnai's comments). An Israeli threatening 'holocaust' may be
unpalatable to those who routinely invoke its spectre to deflect
criticism from the Jewish State's criminal behaviour. With the
'holocaust' reference redacted, the new headline shifts culpability
neatly into the hands of 'Gaza militants' instead."
