'There
Are Cracks in Everything'
A quote...."We are approaching the seventh year of national denial and
treachery. US foreign policy is in shambles, as is the enforcement of
national and international laws that we supposedly abide by. At home we
have become the mirror opposite of who and what we say we are: just
look at the survivors of New Orleans, at the homeless, at the
unemployed and at the sick as well as the disillusioned that roam this
land like the living dead that they are fast becoming. -
The government has used the spineless public to turn each agency of
this government into its own mirror opposite. EPA is in charge of
destroying the environment-not saving it. FDA spreads disease and
contamination through the food and water supply, instead of protecting
it - while it's supposed task of monitoring the world of legal drugs
has been sold to those same companies that they were created to monitor
and oversee. It's the same throughout the government in every federal
agency beginning with the so-called Department of Justice that writes
laws to licensee torture while justifying the suppression of Habeas
Corpus: making a total farce out of anything remotely resembling
Justice."

New polls reveal mass opposition to Democrats and Republicans
A quote...."New opinion polls released this week show mounting
discontent within the American population over the war in Iraq and the
policies of both political parties. They reflect deep and bitter
opposition to the Bush administration, but also reveal that just six
months after the Democrats took control of Congress, masses of
Americans who voted Democratic to express their opposition to the Iraq
war are disillusioned and angry over the Democrats’ cowardice and
complicity with Bush."

Hamas

Some quotes...."Hamas forces late Thursday moved into the last Fatah
stronghold in Gaza City, the compound of offices of Palestinian
Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, witnesses and Hamas officials
said." - "Earlier, three of the PA's most important symbols
in the Gaza Strip fell into the hands of Hamas after hundreds of PA
security officers surrendered or fled to the West Bank. The southern
town of Rafah also fell into the hands of Hamas." - "Hamas
announced that it had seized many documents, weapons and security
equipment inside the two compounds that, when made public, "would shed
light on Fatah's relations with Israel and the CIA."
Gaza: Another
Mess Made in U.S.
A quote...."Everyone following the conflict in Gaza knows full well
that the reason for the violence is not that Palestinians have not
"sorted out their politics" — they’ve made their political preferences
abundantly clear in democratic elections, and later in a power-sharing
agreement brokered by the Saudis. The problem is that the U.S. and the
corrupt and self-serving warlords of Fatah did not accept either the
election result or the unity government, and have conspired actively
ever since to reverse both by all available means, including starving
the Palestinian economy of funds, refusing to hand over power over the
Palestinian Authority to the elected government, and arming and
training Fatah loyalists to militarily restore their party’s power."
Robert
Fisk: Assassination brings Lebanon closer to brink
A quote...."A sign of the times. I arrive home in Beirut from Paris, am
just 20 minutes into my apartment when the windows of my office blow
open with a single "crack". A tremendous explosion rolls across the
Lebanese capital. Out of the house, 500 metres running down the
Corniche and smoke is billowing from the Staff Sporting Club. Soldiers
shouting, cops trying to keep the first reporters away, but I skulk
through the ruins next to the sea with an old Lebanese photographer
friend and we find ourselves in the wreckage of a tourist ghost train,
all mangled tracks and carriages. "Enter at Your Risk," it says over
the tunnel and on the other side is a burning car containing the corpse
of Lebanon's latest assassination victim."

A quote...."Wall Street’s investment banks just got another one step
closer to making defrauding investors an accepted line of business. And
Enron’s employees who lost their pensions and the small investors who
got fleeced in the Enron frauds just got shafted again—this time at the
urging of President George W. Bush."
Gonzales uses US Attorney appointment power that Congress banned
A quote...."In a Senate Judiciary Committee business meeting Thursday
morning, Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT) revealed that Attorney General
Alberto Gonzales once again used an interim appointment authority at
the heart of the US Attorneys controversy that Congress banned in a
bill sent to the President for signature on June 4. -
"Senator Feinstein’s U.S. Attorney bill....repeals that portion of the
Patriot Act Reauthorization that had allowed the Attorney General to
circumvent advice and consent with respect to U.S. Attorneys. That
bill, the Preserving United States Attorney Independence Act of 2007,
has been on the President’s desk since June 4. It seems he just cannot
bring himself to sign it. Instead, we were informed yesterday through
the Justice Department that the Attorney General has used the power
that we have voted to repeal, again," said Senator Leahy, the
committee's chairman."
WHY should Gonzales pay any attention to the
DemoRepubs? They couldn't
even pass a bill censuring him, essentially a bill stating "you're a
bad boy, but we're not going to do anything about it."

Syrian and Iranian

War Alert - Must Read - A
quote...."The regime heads in Tehran are basing their common front with
Damascus on intelligence reports whereby the US and Israel have drawn
up plans for coordinated military action against Iran, Syria and
Hizballah in the summer.
"According to this hypothesis, Iranian leaders foresee the next UN
Security Council in New York at the end of June or early July ending
with an American announcement that the sanctions against Tehran are
inadequate because Russia and China has toned them down. Therefore, the
military option is the only one left on the table. The ayatollahs have
concluded that US president George W. Bush is determined to bow out of
office on the high note of a glittering military success against Iran
to eclipse his failures in Iraq."
"They believe he will not risk the lives of more Americans by mounting
a ground operation, but rather unleash a broad missile assault that
will wipe out Iran’s nuclear facilities and seriously cripple its
economic infrastructure."
"According to the Iranian scenario, the timeline for hostilities has
already been fixed between Washington and Jerusalem - and so has the
plan of action. The US will strike Iran first, after which Israel will
use the opportunity to go for Syria, targeting its air force, missile
bases and deployments, as well as Hizballah’s missile and weapons
stocks which Iran replenished this year."

A quote...."After more than six years of what many experts agree to be
the most incompetent and corrupt administration in the history of the
United States, George W. Bush continues to enjoy the full support of
some 65 percent of his party's base. Considering the enormity of the
failure inflicted upon the nation and its reputation -- Abu Ghraib,
Guantanamo and secret prisons -- one might be surprised to realize that
so many of the Republican faithful continue to support Mister Bush.
And, to be sure, it is a rather sobering reality."

A quote...."When I resorted to Mark Twain's writings I attempted to
escape, at least temporarily from my often distressing readings on war,
politics and terror. But his "The Mysterious Stranger", although
published in 1916, still left me with an eerie feel. The imaginative
story calls into question beliefs that we hold as a "matter of course"

early Tuesday in eastern Afghanistan, Afghan officials said.
- Police manning a remote checkpoint in Nangarhar province said
an American convoy backed by helicopters approached and opened fire
despite their protests and calls for them to stop."
They were "rag heads" anyway....so who cares? After all in a few
years....or months, they were just going to turn against the US
anyway, one dead "rag head" is just one less terrorist to fight.

that right? - mpg

Sudan
is secret partner of U.S.
A quote...."Washington // Sudan has secretly worked with the CIA
to spy on the insurgency in Iraq - an example of how the United States
has continued to cooperate with the Sudanese regime even while
condemning its role in the killing of tens of thousands of civilians in
Darfur."

After awhile you begin to think wars are actually funny.
C'mon folks, all you people reading this blog have got to be thinking
this is pretty amusing right about now- mpg
OK....maybe it's not so amusing.
Given the three articles shown above one must conclude that the US
government is currently supporting, directly or indirectly, every
"terrorist", "extremist", "wahhabist", "fundamentalist" and
"jihadist" group or faction currently present in the Middle East that
espouse xenophobic, divisive, vicious, anti-nationalistic,
anti-democratic, sectarian philosophies.
What the US is
NOT supporting
are any Muslim groups that legitimately represent the aspirations of
the local population. Such as most of the Sunni and Bathist insurgents
along with the Mahdi army in Iraq. The Pushton and Taliban groups
in Afghanistan, Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hammas in Palestine.
By the way, two of these groups, Hammas in Palistine and Hezbollah in
Lebanon, won overwhelming victories recently in internationally
monitored, free and fair elections, whereupon they were both promptly
attacked by Israel with the support of the
United States. Attacks which are continuing to this day.
A quote....The central strategy
was to "establish and protect a new order" that accounts "sufficiently
for the interests of the advanced industrial nations to discourage them
[the Wogs, Darkies, Chinks, Gooks, Spics, Towel Heads, etc.] from
challenging our leadership," while at the same time maintaining a
military dominance capable of "deterring potential competitors from
even aspiring to a larger regional or global role." ---

In other words the same "axis of evil" - The Bushist Neocons and
DemoRepubs in America, the Blairites in Britain, Olmert and his
gang in Israel and the Saudi Royals
SIX
YEARS AFTER 9/11 are
STILL
supporting dozens of "terror groups" through out the Middle East, just
as they did prior to 9/11.
Get the hint folks? – mpg

Iraq's
Workers Strike to Keep Their Oil
A quote...."The Bush administration has no love for unions anywhere,
but in Iraq it has a special reason for hating them. They are the main
opposition to the occupation's economic agenda, and the biggest
obstacle to that agenda's centerpiece - the privatization of Iraq's
oil. At the same time, unions have become the only force in Iraq trying
to maintain at least a survival living standard for the millions of
Iraqis who still have to go to work every day, in the middle of the
war."
Cheney's Iran-Arms-to-Taliban Gambit Rebuffed
A quote...."A media campaign portraying Iran as supplying arms to the
Taliban guerrillas fighting U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan,
orchestrated by advocates of a more confrontational stance toward Iran
in the George W. Bush administration, appears to have backfired last
week when Defense Secretary Robert Gates and the commander of NATO
forces in Afghanistan, Gen. Dan McNeill, issued unusually strong
denials."
Kuwait
says US cannot use bases for any Iran strike
A quote...."Kuwait, a staunch US ally, said on Monday it would not
allow the United States to use its territory as a launch-pad for any
attack on Iran over its nuclear programme. - "The United
States did not ask (to use Kuwaiti military facilities for any attack)
and even if it did, we will not allow anybody to use our territory,"
defence and interior minister Sheikh Jaber al-Mubarak al-Sabah told
reporters."
Translation : Cheney and
his thugs privately put out some feelers about using our air bases
regarding their upcoming plan to bomb Iran - we
want the WHOLE WORLD TO UNDERSTAND - the answer is NO!

Semper Tyrannis: A Slap in the Face of the Crawford Caligula
Two quotes....
“To sanction such presidential
authority to order the military to seize and indefinitely detain
civilians," Judge Diana Gribbon Motz wrote, “even if the President
calls them ‘enemy combatants,’ would have disastrous consequences for
the Constitution — and the country.”
“We refuse to recognize a claim to power,” Judge Motz added, “that
would so alter the constitutional foundations of our Republic.”

Former
Justice Department Official Calls Gonzales's Actions "Appalling"
A quote...." Washington - Dan Metcalfe says he thought he
had seen it all as a former senior Justice Department lawyer whose
career stretches back to the Watergate scandal of the Nixon
administration. - Over the years, Metcalfe says, he has
taken pride in being able to work with Republican and Democratic
administrations as director of the department's Office of Information
and Privacy, which he co-founded in 1981. - But he says he
has never seen anything quite like Attorney General Alberto R.
Gonzales."
After
G8 summit: Conflict between US and Russia intensifies
A quote...."The show of harmony between the leaders of the G8 states,
which was publicly celebrated at their summit in Heiligendamm, Germany,
lasted less than 24 hours. The participants were still making their way
home when conflicts, particularly between the US and Russia, erupted
once again."
Questions
over secret bank transfers The Guardian BAE investigation
A quote...."The arms company BAE Systems used a secret payments system
to transfer more than £13m to a company linked to David Hart, the
controversial former Conservative defence adviser, according to legal
sources. - He has acted as a lobbyist both for Britain's
biggest arms company and also for the giant military manufacturer
Boeing in the US. - Mr Hart, an Old Etonian who lives in a
Suffolk mansion, became notorious in the 1980s for helping the then
prime minster Margaret Thatcher break the miners' strike in an
operation he ran from a luxury suite at Claridges hotel, in London."
Rather
Attacks Couric: 'Dumb It Down, Tart It Up'
A quote...."As already noted on NewsBusters, former CBS anchor Dan
Rather appeared on Monday’s edition of "Morning Joe" and lobbied for a
"a strategic withdrawal from Iraq." He also found time to twice bash
his "Evening News" successor Katie Couric for dumbing down and "tarting
up" the news. After giving the standard caveat that Couric is a "nice
person," he went in for kill. Speculating on the program’s declining
ratings, Rather complained to MSNBC host Joe Scarborough that "the
mistake was to try to bring the ‘Today’ ethos to the evening news and
to dumb it down, tart it up in hopes of attracting a younger audience."
The
wrath of 2007: America's great drought
A quote...." America is facing its worst summer drought since the Dust
Bowl years of the Great Depression. Or perhaps worse still.
- From the mountains and desert of the West, now into an eighth
consecutive dry year, to the wheat farms of Alabama, where crops are
failing because of rainfall levels 12 inches lower than usual, to the
vast soupy expanse of Lake Okeechobee in southern Florida, which has
become so dry it actually caught fire a couple of weeks ago, a
continent is crying out for water."
