Light, Just Tunnel: The Bipartisan Guarantee of Continuing War in Iraq
Must Read - A
quote....Most people persist in believing that the Bush Administration
has "mishandled" or "bungled" the war in Iraq, when in fact they have
achieved
almost
all of their goals.
(A reality that we have examined
here,
here
and
here,
among other places.) They have vastly enriched their cronies. They have
installed a U.S. military presence in Iraq. They have expanded the
size, power and scope of the armed forces and the intelligence services
(which now have their own secret armies) beyond the wildest dreams of
the most hawkish Cold War militarist. They have not only gutted the
Constitution but proved that you can get away with it -- an invaluable
lesson for dictators to come. And, as noted, they have committed the
American Establishment to continuing the radical course they have set
in motion -- because the Establishment will never allow the election of
any candidate who would seek to institute the rollback of the empire
and the restoration of genuine constitutional government. Especially as
the latter would entail bringing justice to the war makers and the war
profiteers, all of them honored stalwarts of the Establishment."

Market Brushfire; Will there be a run on the banks? - posted at
ICH
A quote...."08/12/07 "ICH" -- - On Friday, the Dow Jone’s clawed its
way back from a 200 point deficit to a mere 31 point loss after the
Federal Reserve injected $38 billion into the banking system. The Fed
had already pumped $24 billion into the system a day earlier after the
Dow plummeted 387 points. That brings the Fed’s total commitment to a
whopping $62 billion. - By some estimates, $326.3 billion
has now been added to the G-7 Nations’ intra-banking system to prevent
a breakdown. That amount will rise considerably in the weeks ahead as
the situation continues to deteriorate. Some readers may remember that
on Tuesday, August 7, the Fed announced that it was NOT planning to
bail out the market."
UPDATE
: The Dow Jones, NASDAQ and the S&P 500 indices have double
bounced off of, or just above, the 200 day moving average (one year
chart) forming a "W" formation, this is about the seventh time they've
done so and a chart pattern like this has almost always been followed
by a rally. Such a technical formation along with the contrarian
consideration of the increasing pessimism currently in the market would
normally be considered a positive development.
However if you were a pessimist at the top of the tulip bulb mania in
Holland because your bulbs weren't fetching 300 gilders each, the
market had just experienced an upset, rumors were flying about worse to
come, and you and everybody else were worried that prices might
decline....you, and the rest of the crowd might just be right this time.
It is actually possible at some point during a market's liftime "that
debt does matter", or at least becomes an issue.
Because of the massive and obvious intervention by the Fed along with
many of the world's other central banks, the highly suspect nature
regarding much of the corporate buybacks and merger activities which
have
artificially pumped up share prices in the last eighteen months, and
the impenetrable nature regarding much of the derivatives, CDO's and
other newly created synthetic securities out there, this editor no
longer considers technical or contrarian indicators to be totally
reliable tools in forecasting market trends. In essence there
currently
is no visibility in this market.
As such Tuesdays 07-24-07 market decent and it's subsequent "rebound"
is considered to be complete and no further stock
market predictions are possible at
this time. - posted 08-12-07

Editors note: Most probablyTuesday's 07-24-07
market action is part of a correction down to the

and this activity really is the start of a premature and early end to
the ten year "credit/contraction" cycle (this editor thought it
would end in 2008) you can expect a major "fortuitous" attack on the US

Become a Roman - or Remain an American
08-11-07 - revised 08-17-07

Goodbye
Uncle Sam
Must Read - A
quote...."What does it feel like to turn your back on your country? As
increasing numbers of US military personnel head for Canada to escape
service in Iraq and Afghanistan, three deserters explain what drove
them to such drastic action"
Actually they're NOT turning their backs on their country; they're
Americans leaving the New Roman Empire, adamantly refusing to become a
Neo-Romans themselves.
It's a choice everyone now living in what was once formally known as
the United States of America will have to make.
Become a Neo-Roman - as
roughly thirty percent of this population has
already chosen to do; to become an idolater, a money worshiper, to
abase yourselves before the wealthy, to violate, defile and make a
mockery of your "professed" religious beliefs while avidly supporting
the destruction of everything those beliefs represented, to desecrate
and ignore the constitution, the bill of rights and other "quaint"
documents, to desire power above all else, to countenance torture,
murder and other abominations against millions who have done you no
harm, to actually enjoy the degradation and humiliation of others, to
spit on the good opinion of mankind, to secretly revel in what has been
done in your name so you can have a more comfortable life, to pretend
you didn't know what truly happened on that day called 9/11, to engage
in the art of plausible deniability, to live the lie while others who
naively and foolishly believe, die for ideas you publicly declare but
gave up long ago.
Or remain an American – To
remain true to the often stated principals
of this nation, to become a stranger in a strange land, to gaze in
horror upon a culture and a people where more than a third of the
population and all of it's elites are no longer recognizable for having
forsaken the ideas they once professed to believe, a place where these
Neo-Romans no longer even attempt to live up to their sacred
principals, moral obligations, covenants, bonds or
the oaths they swore to
uphold....a
people and a country where one third of it's former citizenry and
all
of it's elites have renounced their citizenship and have voluntarily
endeavored to make this formally imperfect union into a sick, twisted,
vicious, sadistic, perverted, blasphemous, vile, nightmarish version of
the Roman Empire….into a land of the living dead
The choice is still your's, you can choose to remain true to yourself,
to America's stated values and ideas - or you can choose to join the
New Roman Empire and become a Neo-Roman.
It's your choice. - mpg

average of 15 to 20 coffins a day and charges $50-$75 for each one."
The Iraqis are losing their water, their electricity is failing, their
infrastructure is crumbling but the funeral business is booming.

another decade of gloriously profitable conflict, while also
using the pretext of their "fortuitous" event to establish a permanent

Zogby
Poll: Are American Voters Sore Losers?
A quote...."As I reviewed the data from the latest Zogby Poll, I came
to a new conclusion that will undoubtedly draw the criticism of some of
my fellow citizens...but what the hell...I think it needs to be spoken.
A majority of Americans are sore losers who lack the good sense to know
when its time to admit we were wrong and move on. There, I've said it.
Now I'll try to explain it"
Daily Kos: CIA Engineered
Controlled Opposition?
a quote...."Is it possible Markos Alberto Moulitsas
Zúñiga, leader of the “Kossaks,” that is to say followers
and fawners of the Daily Kos, is a CIA operative? Francis Holland,
posting on the My Left Wing messageboard, details Moulitsas’
relationship with the CIA: - “Markos Moulitsas
Zúniga, owner of the DailyKos website, now admits that he spent
six months in the employ of the US Central Intelligence Agency in
2001,” writes Holland. “In a one-hour interview on June 2, 2006 at the
Commonwealth Club, Moulitsas, also known as ‘Kos,’ admitted that he was
a CIA employee and would have ‘no problem working for them’ in the
present.”
Bear
Stearns Fat Cats Cashed Out at the Top
A quote...."BOSTON -- Wall Street bank Bear Stearns (BSC -
Cramer's Take - Stockpickr - Rating) is right at the heart of the
subprime mortgage meltdown. It's reeling from massive,
multibillion-dollar losses at two hedge funds. - And every
investor who has watched the stock collapse from more than $172 to just
$117.78 in a few months is probably kicking himself for not selling at
least some back at the peak, before the crisis hit. - Four
savvy investors did just that. - Step forward, Alan
Greenberg, Sam Molinaro, James Cayne and Warren Spector. -
Who are they? - Top honchos at ... Bear Stearns. (Or they
were: Spector has now left in a management shake-up. The others
remain.)"

Bush's
war adviser says a return to the military draft is worth considering
A quote...."WASHINGTON: Frequent tours for U.S. forces in Iraq and
Afghanistan have stressed the all-volunteer force and made it worth
considering a return to a military draft, President George W. Bush's
new war adviser said Friday."
US
and French Oil Conglomerates Share the Spoils of War
A quote...."What this agreement suggests is that US oil interests are
sharing the spoils of war with Europe's largest oil giant, the
Franco-Belgian oil conglomerate Total. - This rapprochement
between
Chevron and Total is consistent with the shift in French politics.
President Nicolas Sarkozy is broadly representative of the interests of
the Franco-Belgian conglomerate."
European
Hypocrisy
A quote...."While in Paris a few weeks ago, whenever I would discuss
Middle East politics with anyone, I would be overwhelmed with the
traditional refrains of classical anti-Americanism: "they have no
culture and deal with the world as if it had no culture," "they have no
morality in their foreign policy," "they go to war for oil and money"
and so on with inane over-simplified stereotypes. Soon after would come
the cackle of self-righteous pride: "we Europeans are different," "we
want our foreign policy based on a concept of morality," "we attempt to
promote justice in the world and fix up the mess left behind by the
Americans." I would then usually be told something about all the aid
that Europeans give to Palestinians as proof of the decency of
Europeans as opposed to the rabidly Zionist Americans who give billions
to fund Israel's murderous army. -- Would that this were
true."

Friday for tinkering with other performers' webcasts.
