What the Palestinians must do is enter into these negotiations with no pre-conditions, but with the clear understanding that these negotiations are being held to most efficiently enable the Israelis to withdraw from the territories they've illegally occupied and fulfill the many UN resolutions demanding that they do so.  In other words, that the Palestinians are engaging in these talks simply and solely to help the Israelis better understand their obligations under the law.

That by the end of these negotiations everyone should clearly understand all Palestinians will be allowed the full right of return, that the state of Israel will return to the 1967 borders (assuming a "two state solution" is still possible, although it's probably too late for that) and that Jerusalem will be the capital for both peoples.
