The Middle East In Crisis - Coverage of These Events This Day:
Wednesday March 2nd 2011...

Roots of the Arab Revolts and Premature Celebrations
Must Read - A quote...."Street-based movements lack the organization and leadership to project, let alone impose a new political or social order. Their power is found in their ability to pressure existing elites and institutions, not to replace the state and economy. Hence the surprising ease with which the US, Israeli and EU backed Egyptian military were able to seize power and protect the entire rentier state and economic structure while sustaining their ties with their imperial mentors."

Major Media Promote War on Libya
Presstitute Alert - Special Note - A quote...."Major Media Promote War on Libya - by Stephen Lendman -- When imperial America wants war, peace advocates are shut out by official rhetoric and hawkish media reports supporting militarism, not diplomatic efforts to achieve peace. Those for it aren't heard. Hugo Chavez's government is one. On February 28, Venezuela's Foreign Minister, Nicolas Maduro, warned against belligerence saying."

Unverified Misreporting on Libya
Special Note - Related Article - A quote...."March 01, 2011 "Information Clearing House" -- America's media, Britain's state-controlled BBC, other Western sources, and Al Jazeera are spreading unverified or false reports on Libya's uprising." - Source:  SteveLendman

World Cheers as the CIA Plunges Libya Into Chaos
Special Note - A quote..."March 01, 2011 "Information Clearing House" --  February 23, 2011 -- How was Libya doing under the rule of Gadaffi? How bad did the people have it? Were they oppressed as we now commonly accept as fact? Let us look at the facts for a moment."

Petroleum and Empire in North Africa. NATO Invasion of Libya Underway
Special Note - A quote...."Are events unfolding in Libya, Tunisia and Egypt more about petro-terrorism or about freedom and democracy? How much oil is there in North Africa? Who is in control of that oil? What is the relationship between the West and Muamar Gaddafi? Is he really the terrorist we've all been led to believe he is? Who is the Libyan "opposition" and who are the "rebels" we read about?"

"Humanitarian Intervention" in Libya: The Revival of Imperialist Ideology
Quote of the Day...."Ironic, in the middle of a revolutionary upsurge in the Middle East, that an unholy alliance of security experts, politicos, EU personnel, ambassadors, and house babblers is once more bruiting the shop-soiled commodity of 'humanitarian intervention'. Forget the recent embarrassment over the loss of Tunisia, and Egypt, and the sweats over uprisings in Bahrain and Yemen. It's all about Libya. And having spent the last few years arming Qadhafi, selling him to international audiences as a former madman who has seen the light, the US and EU are now simulating mortal affront over the use to which Qadhafi is putting those weapons."

14 Potential Justifications For An Invasion Of Libya By The U.S. Military That Are Currently Being Floated In The Mainstream Media - A quote...."Over the past couple of days, top government officials from both the United States and the EU have been openly discussing the possibility of military intervention in Libya. In fact, it has seemed like there has been a full court press in the mainstream media to sway public opinion toward supporting a potential invasion." - also posted at BLN

Libya: [David] Cameron's plan for no-fly zone shunned by world leaders
A quote...."David Cameron was looking increasingly isolated last night over his call for the international community to impose a no-fly zone over Libya."

Report: Gadhafi, Arab League OK peace-talk plan
A quote...."BREGA, Libya — Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi and the president of the Arab League agreed to a peace plan from Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez to end the crisis in the North African country, a news network said on Thursday. -- Chavez spoke to Gadhafi on Tuesday and laid out his proposal to seek a negotiated solution to the violence in Libya, Venezuela's Information Minister Andres Izarra said, without giving more details."

Israel Is Providing Mercenaries For Gadaffi(!)
(WTF!) - mpg - A quote...."Continuing on in my exposure of what exactly is happening in Libya, we find today the popular revolt against Gadaffi's regime closing in on Gadaffi's main base centered around Tripoli.  It does appear that very soon, unless there is some foreign intervention,  the revolt will remove Gadaffi from power."

US prepares to launch Libya attack
A quote...."Latest media reports suggest that the United States and its allies may be preparing the ground for a military intervention in Libya. -- The US Senate has unanimously passed a resolution calling for a no-fly zone over Libya." - bold by website editor

'US will try to assasinate Gaddafi"  - (RTYuTb - 7m22s - Mar 2, 2011) - Src:  RussiaToday
A quote...."To discuss the possible military intervention in Libya RT talks to Dr. Franklin Lamb who's the director of Americans for Middle East Peace." - Spot-on except for the part where the guy engages in out-right fantasy and states "Obama is going to try to do good" in Libya. Wishful thinking like that is what has helped to cause over two million deaths in the Middle East at the hands of the US-NRE. - mpg

Chavez: U.S. distorting situation in Libya 'to justify an invasion'
A quote...."(CNN) -- Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez claims U.S. criticism of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi has a clear aim: military invasion. -- "Let's not get carried away by the drums of war, because the United States, I am sure that they are exaggerating and distorting things to justify an invasion," Chavez said Monday, according to Venezuelan state media."

Rebranding Egypt's revolution
A quote...."Mamoon Alabbasi warns Egyptians against attempts by outsiders to abort their revolution by sowing the seeds of religious division. “Those who have failed to suppress the Egyptian revolution now seek to derail it or rebrand it [as either Islamist or other] in order to keep the status quo of division and mistrust among the people.”

Egypt to hold another march of millions
Action Alert - A quote...."Egyptian opposition activists have called for another million-man march on Friday to pressure interim Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq to step down."

Opposition Rejects Saleh’s Unity Deal Offer, Massive Protest Starts
A quote...."Yemen's opposition coalition has rejected an offer from the president Ali Abdullah Saleh's to form a government of national unity provided that protests against him stop. -- Mohammed Saleh al-Qubati, an opposition leader, said that the president should step down instead of offering outdated "tranquilizers".

The Middle East In Crisis - Coverage of These Events This Day:
Tuesday March 1st 2011...

The War Party’s Atrocity Porn
Must Read - War Warning - A quote....""Surely it was a coincidence that the "Cry in the Night" from Libya was echoed on the same network a few nights later by Iraq war architect, former World Bank president, and accused war criminal Paul Wolfowitz, who several days prior to Cooper's dramatic broadcast called for a NATO-enforced "no fly zone" over Libya.-- In fact, the day following that interview, an ad hoc group calling itself the Foreign Policy Initiative, which coalesced from the remnants of the Project for a New American Century, published an "open letter" to Mr. Obama demanding military intervention – beginning with a no-fly zone – in Libya.  The neo-con framework for managing the Libyan crisis would create a regional protectorate administered by NATO on behalf of the "international community." This would nullify any effort on the part of Libyans, Egyptians, Tunisians, and others to achieve true independence.-- On previous experience with media campaigns on behalf of humanitarian conquest, my incurable cynicism leads me to hear in Cooper's "Cry in the Night" a faint but unmistakable echo of the tearful, palpably earnest testimony of "Nayirah" –   the wide-eyed Kuwaiti girl who, using an assumed name to "protect her family," described what had befallen her country in the wake of the Iraqi invasion" - also posted at ProLebertate & ICH & InfoLiberation - Topix ||  9/11-Planning Guidance Dcs  ||

Libya: African mercenaries 'immune from prosecution for war crimes
Special Note - War Warning - (a repost) - A quote...."....the US insisted that the UN resolution was worded so that no one from an outside country that is not a member [i.e. either the US-NRE or its paid mercenaries] of the ICC could be prosecuted for their actions in Libya." - bold/underline by website editor - posted 02-28-11 --  It should be noted that the US-NRE is not a member of the ICC (although signed by Clinton the treaty was never ratified and it was adamantly opposed by Bush Jr). And since the US-NRE has now gone and done the exact same thing again, demanded and received an exemption from the jurisdiction of the ICC prior to its prepositioning of military forces around Lybia, as it did prior to its illegal invasion of Iraq, this move by the US-NRE is classified as a "war warning" and is a very, very, bad sign of things to come [as in Fallujah]  for the people of Libya.  See also related article shown below....

Q&A: International Criminal Court
Related Article - A quote...."In a much-criticised decision, the UN Security Council voted on 12 July 2002 on a compromise [prior to the invasion of Iraq] that gave US troops a 12-month exemption from prosecution - renewed annually. -- But the Security Council - prompted by then UN Secretary General Kofi Annan - refused to renew the exemption in June 2004, two months after pictures of US troops abusing Iraqi prisoners shocked the world."

US UK, French forces land in Libya

They don't want to be associated with the pending destruction of their country, nor its new occupiers. - mpg -- A quote...."Public calls amongst top US officials to funnel weapons to the “Free Libya” movement that is on the verge of ousting long-time dictator Moammar Gadhafi have once again been spurned by leaders of the protest movement, who insist that they are fully capable of liberating what little of the nation means under regime control on their own."

Airstrikes in Libya did not take place - Russian military
RTVideo - (RTYuTb - 2min 03sec - Mar 1, 2011) - Source:  TheRedacted -- Tsk, tsk, tsk.  A black eye for al-Jazeera, this website editor considers al-Jazeera's erroneous report to be just a simple mistake on their part....for now. - mpg -- A quote...."The reports of Libya mobilizing its air force against its own people spread quickly around the world. However, Russia's military chiefs say they have been monitoring from space -- and the pictures tell a different story. According to Al Jazeera and BBC, on February 22 Libyan government inflicted airstrikes on Benghazi -- the country's largest city -- and on the capital Tripoli. However, the Russian military, monitoring the unrest via satellite from the very beginning, says nothing of the sort was going on on the ground. At this point, the Russian military is saying that, as far as they are concerned, the attacks some media were reporting have never occurred. The same sources in Russia's military establishment say they are also monitoring the situation around Libya's oil pumping facilities."

NATO invasion of Libya ‘disgusting idea’

Libyan infantry commander joins people
A quote...."The commander of the Libyan army's infantry forces has joined the revolution against Muammar Gaddafi's regime, and the international community is stepping up pressure on the North African country to stop the violence."

No to imperialist intervention in Libya
A quote...."Rebels in the Libyan city of Az Zawiyah (close to the capital) have fought back an attempt by Gaddafi’s forces to retake the city. According to eyewitness reports there were six hours of fighting during the night as the two sides struggled for control of the city. As one anti-Gaddafi activist explained, “We managed to defeat them because our spirits are high and their spirits are zero.” - also posted at Uruknet

Iraq’s Opposition Seethes As Arrests, Beatings Continue

The narcissism of the iPad imperialists who want to invade Libya
Must Read - A quote...."In a modern political sphere that has its fair share of narcissists and ignoramuses, no one is quite as narcissistic or as ignorant as the liberal interventionist. From the comfort of his Home Counties home, possibly to the sound of birds tweeting on the windowsill, the liberal interventionist will write furious, spittle-stained articles about the need to invade faraway countries in order to topple their dictators. As casually and thoughtlessly as the rest of us write shopping lists, he will pen a 10-point plan for the bombing of Yugoslavia or Afghanistan or Iraq and not give a second thought to the potentially disastrous consequences."

First Egypt, next Venezuela?
Special Note - A quote...."As the wave of popular uprisings has spread across the Arab world, a flurry of articles have appeared suggesting Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez could be the next “dictator” to be overthrown. -- Such arguments follow a pattern in the corporate media of slandering the Chavez government and the revolutionary process it leads. -- They aim to conceal the real threat that haunts imperialism: that the Arab world may follow the example of Venezuela and other countries in Latin America — and break away from Western hegemony." - also posted at GlobalRsrch

'Arab world takes back wealth from West'
A quote...."The Arab world has awakened to take back all its wealth and rights plundered by the West and its current embattled dictatorial regimes, a political analyst says."

How will America handle the fall of its Middle East empire?
A quote...."Empires can collapse in the course of a generation. At the end of the 16th century, the Spanish looked dominant. Twenty-five years later, they were on their knees, over-extended, bankrupt, and incapable of coping with the emergent maritime powers of Britain and Holland. The British empire reached its fullest extent in 1930. Twenty years later, it was all over. -- Today, it is reasonable to ask whether the United States, seemingly invincible a decade ago, will follow the same trajectory. America has suffered two convulsive blows in the last three years." - Both of them self-inflicted one might add. - mpg

Khadafi On the Outs
Special Note - A quote...."Mouammar Khadafi strode onto the world stage when he and other young officers kicked out a King named Idris, who had charged foreign corporations the lowest prices in the world to suck out the nation’s oil wealth. That was back in 1969. By the time I had my encounter with Khadafi, 40 years later, in late October of 2009, he was still calling himself a socialist and sworn enemy of capitalism, and pushing his Green Book as a universal guide to social justice. But Khadafi had clearly reached an accommodation with the United States and the rich men of Europe. White and Asian corporate guys were everywhere in Tripoli, the capital, which was bursting at the seams with construction projects built by foreigners for foreign corporations. Libya and its six million inhabitants had become a full-fledged corporate “destination,” and Khadafi’s armed forces were in constant collaboration with the crack forces of the U.S. imperial war machine." - also posted at Uruknet

Gaddafi struggles to keep control

A quote...."Catrina Stewart reports from Tobruk, where victorious protesters are working to restore a sense of normality."

Opposition forces close in around Libyan capital
A quote...."BENGHAZI, Libya — Unrest continued to draw closer to Tripoli Thursday, even igniting in areas of western Libya previously under tight government control, the day before a planned demonstration in the capital against President Moammar Gadhafi's long-standing rule designed to coincide with the Muslim Sabbath. -- After braving days of extreme violence and seizing control of the oil-rich North African country's eastern areas, anti-Gadhafi forces reportedly took contol of the city of Zawiya, just 30 miles west of the capital." - bold by website editor

Robert Fisk: Gaddafi raved and cursed, but he faces forces he cannot control

A quote...."Scores of Libyan soldiers have been executed for refusing to open fire on pro-democracy protesters, International Federation for Human Rights (IFHR) says."

Egypt/Turkey-Israel: ‘A clean break’
Special Note - A quote...."While Egypt’s revolution was very much about domestic matters -- bread and butter, corruption, repression -- its most immediate effects have been international. Not for a long time has Egypt loomed so large in the region, to both friend and foe. At least 13 of the 22 Arab League countries are now affected: Algeria, Bahrain, Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia and Yemen. -- But just as powerful has been the resonance in Israel. It has no precedent for an assertive, democratic neighbour. Except for Turkey."

Muslim Brotherhood calls for mass protest against new Egyptian cabinet
A quote...."Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood called to hold a mass rally next Friday in Cairo's Tahrir Square to demand a new government. The Al Quds Al Arabi newspaper said the movement, which was banned during the rule of president Hosni Mubarak, is demanding a government without any figure who served under Mubarak."

A quote...."30,000 people attended a rally in Athens today. Today's rally was organised as part of a general strike, which caused chaos. Whether it was recent events in the middle east that caused the police to overreact is hard to determine but they used tear gas and stun grenades."

It's Not an Arab Revolution ... It's a GLOBAL Revolution
A quote...."
While the revolution in Tunisia, Egypt, Libya and other North African countries may seem like an "Arab revolt", it's actually worldwide. -- Protests involving thousands of protesters have recently been held in...."
"The worldwide riots are not mysterious or unforeseeable. They've been predicted for years, and are a direct result of the bad policy choices made by most nations worldwide."

Egyptian Uprising overthrows its Zionist Master
Special Note - A quote...."During the cold war period no liberation movement in any third world country was left to its own devices to fulfill the will of the people through the creation of democratic institutions and a more just society. They were continually corrupted by the superpowers seeking to enhance their global strategic interests in pursuit of global political dominion. The soviets generally tended to support secretive revolutionary movements which invariably aimed at creating one party states that would be sympathetic to their interests whilst the Americans, aiming to take over from former colonial powers, sought to install dictators who would promote their interests. It might have been thought that, with the end of the cold war, the days when overarching global strategic factors were able to corrupt domestic struggles for a better society would be long gone but the january 15, 2011 uprising in egypt confirmed the existence of a new strategic factor. This threatened to stymie egyptians’ liberation struggle. Although this struggle was eventually successful, the new strategic factor could still end up deterring or delaying the completion of this struggle i.e. the creation of a new constitution and democratic institutions."

Egypt’s Revolution Must Remain the People’s Revolution
Special Note - A quote...."In this article I will explore the uncertain fate of the Egyptian revolution given the problem of military rule, and the U.S’ attempts to control and contain genuine Arab uprisings and the reasons behind this. I will conclude with a brief mention of the universality of the Egyptian case and the need for a global uprising against a system that oppresses and exploits us all--organized, global capital."

The Popular Uprising in Egypt: The Military Machine Remains Intact, The Political Status Quo Prevails
Special Note - A quote...."The same group of Egyptian generals running Cairo presently also formed the backbone of the Mubarak regime. There has been no real change in government. The military junta represents a continuation of the Mubarak regime. The previous so-called civilian administration and the Egyptian High Council of the Armed Forces are virtually the same body."

The West Saw Gadhafi as Indispensable'

German commentators on Tuesday point out that Europe has grown used to relying on Gadhafi for oil -- and ignoring the nature of his regime."

Gaddafi threatens mass killings as popular rebellion spreads
A quote...."In the 70-minute diatribe, which appeared to have been taped before a small audience of security agents, Gaddafi called on the people of Libya to rise up and defend his regime, while at the same time threatening to imitate the worst historic crimes in repressing those who opposed him. -- He cited approvingly the US destruction of the Iraqi city of Fallujah, China’s crushing of the 1989 Tiananmen Square uprising and the bombardment of the Russian parliament by Boris Yeltsin as examples of what he would do to rebel-held cities like Derna and Bayda. He threatened to “execute” dissidents, referring favorably to the Waco massacre in the United States as a precedent." - bold by website editor - Well, he learns from the best. - mpg

Libya and the bankruptcy of Arab nationalism
A quote...."While a decade ago, an uprising against Gaddafi would have been celebrated in Washington as a triumph over the “axis of evil,” today, Obama remains silent and his Secretary of State Hillary Clinton treats the wholesale massacres in Tripoli, Benghazi and elsewhere in the nation of six and a half million with the utmost circumspection. Over the past decade Gaddafi has been embraced by Washington as a force for stability—and a guarantor of profits—in the region. Significantly, the uprising against him is the first of the spreading revolutionary developments in the Middle East to trigger a sell-off on Wall Street."

The main coalition of the January 25 revolution, which included the most active groups and parties, has presented 35 demands to the new military rulers. Tunisia seeking Ben Ali's extradition
A quote...."Tunisia is seeking the extradition of former President Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali from Saudi Arabia to face charges stemming from a violent crackdown on protesters before he was toppled last month."

Al Jazeera signal jammed in Mideast, Libya suspected
A quote...."DOHA, Feb 20 (Reuters) - Al Jazeera's signal across the Middle East and North Africa was plagued by jamming on Sunday, the Arab satellite broadcaster said, and Lebanon said the electronic interference was coming from Libya."

Libya arrests Arab 'network' for destabilising country
Article #1 - A quote...."TRIPOLI: Libyan authorities have arrested dozens of members of a "network" of Arab nationals allegedly seeking to destabilise the country, the official Jana news agency reported Saturday."

Full Text of Saif Gadaffi's TV Address - posted at ICH
Article #2 - A quote...."February 20, 2011 "Information Clearing House" -- I saw that I had to speak to you. Many Libyans asked me to speak. I don't have a paper or a document to read from.I will not speak in classical Arabic, I will speak in Libyan, I don't have any papers, this is a talk from the heart & mind. We all know that the region is passing through an earthquake, a hurricane or change. If this change does not come from the govts it will come from the people, we have seen this in other Arab countries. Today I will tell you only truth only."

Regarding the two articles shown above, Qaddafi is a ferociously ruthless dictator who has ruled Libya with an iron fist for over forty years.  He is now responsible for the unnecessary deaths of a very large number of protesters, almost all of whom at the time were unarmed, whether he's DIRECTLY responsible for the deaths of fifty -- or two hundred and fifty -- (as of 02-20-11) will later be determined by the facts and circumstances.  Whatever the case and whatever the tally and no matter what excuses his administration may offer, it is a sad fact (so far) that a lot more people have been shot down in the streets of Libya than any other country in the Middle East during this crisis.  He bares full responsibility for that tragedy.  That said, Libya is starting to feel, look, and even smell, like a pre-planned foreign managed "color revolution" - mpg

Riot police targeted doctors and medics and prevented ambulances and blood donors from reaching the Pearl roundabout. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he fears reprisal. -- Witnesses told The Associated Press a mixture of special commandos, foreign mercenaries and Gadhafi loyalists went after demonstrators on Saturday with knives, assault rifles and heavy-caliber weapons. Only the Arab people can decide. Their fate is in their hands, but they should learn from the mistakes of 1848 and seriously address the role of the capitalist class."

A quote...."Fierce clashes between anti-regime protesters and Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh's Supporters in Sanaa injured at least 25 people, as the army deployed in force in the restive city of Aden on Thursday, AFP news agency reported. -- Clashes broke out for a fifth straight day when about 2,000 protesters, mostly students, had just left Sanaa University headed for central Sanaa's Tahrir Square, or Liberation Square, when they ran into regime supporters. -- The protesters, chanting "The people want to overthrow the regime," responded by hurling stones."

Girl, 2, shot dead as Bahrain police swoop on peaceful protest camp
A quote...."Graphic images were released showing the child's bullet-ridden body apparently lying in hospital. She is understood to have been with her parents when riot officers using tear gas, live bullets and clubs swooped on thousands camped in the main square in the capital Manama at around 3am local time. "

Blood Runs Through the Streets of Bahrain
A quote...."As a reporter, you sometimes become numbed to sadness. But it is heartbreaking to be in modern, moderate Bahrain right now and watch as a critical American ally uses tanks, troops, guns and clubs to crush a peaceful democracy movement and then lie about it."

Lethal crackdown in Bahrain is “Made in the US”
A quote...."A savage attack by police on peaceful demonstrators, many of them sleeping, in the center of Bahrain’s capital Manama early Thursday morning (approximately 3:30 a.m.) left at least six and perhaps more dead, dozens wounded and 60 missing. The Middle East In Crisis - Coverage of These Events This Day:
Wednesday February 16th 2011...

Zionism Contra Democracy
Must Read - A quote...."Israeli leaders are terrified that this democratic revolution might bring about a radical change in Egypt’s foreign policy, since Mubarak had acquiesced  to and actually in some ways facilitated Israel’s regional hegemony, which the general public neither in Egypt nor anywhere else in the Middle East would voluntarily support."

Egyptian Blockade of Gaza — The March for Liberation Coming February 26
Must Read - Contains Video - Alt - A quote...."There is much talk about who and what is behind the popular revolts in the Arab world and I find such talk as interesting as anyone.  But more than talk I am interested in action.  Indeed that is why tears of joy streamed down my face as I watched the Egyptian people cleansing themselves of the shame brought upon them by Mubarak and his fellow thieves and traitors.  Clearly however, the job is far from complete."

Egypt’s Uprising: Not Just a Question of “Transition”
Special Note - A quote...."No sooner had Hosni Mubarak been pushed aside than the corporate media began busily minimizing the goals of the Egyptian people’s revolt. It was all about one man’s crimes, they said, requiring only some “democratic” adjustments to make the “transition” to a system that Washington and London could love. But “class remains the key dynamic to understanding any social transformation,” in Arab lands as elsewhere. “The result of neoliberalism was the enrichment of a tiny elite concurrent with the immiseration of the vast majority.”

Egypt: Social Movements, the CIA and the Mossad
Special Note - A quote...."The mass movements which forced the removal of Mubarak reveal both the strength and weaknesses of spontaneous uprisings. On the one hand, the social movements demonstrated their capacity to mobilize hundreds of thousands, if not millions, in a successful sustained struggle culminating in the overthrow of the dictator in a way that pre-existent opposition parties and personalities were unable or unwilling to do." - also posted at AlethoNews & MyCatBird'sSeat - Source:  JamesPetras

CIA, Mossad Have Control Over the Newly Appointed Military Junta in Egypt
A quote...."Hamsayeh.Net - Senior Iranian expressed grave concerns over CIA’s role during recent mass movements in Egypt that led to Mubarak’s dismissal from power by his western backers. -- Mohammad Javad Larijani, Secretary General of the High Council fo Human Rights, told Iranian national television IRIB on Monday, both Mossad and CIA play active roles in Egypt thus effectively controlling the military junta that came into power after Mubarak was forced to stepped down last week."

Egypt, Israel, Gaza Tinderbox
Special Note - A quote...."A very small - but highly strategic - sliver of real estate once again holds the key to possible future conflict in the Middle East. -- The Egyptian Revolution has raised questions as to the possible termination of the 1979 Israel-Egypt Peace Treaty by Egypt. Any such concern - in the short term - seems to have been allayed by the Fourth Egyptian Military Statement  issued on 12 February declaring...."

Major new protests in Bahrain, Yemen, Libya and Iraq
A quote...."Populations across the Middle East and North Africa continue to express opposition to their respective governments, demanding political rights and pressing for economic gains, in an unprecedented wave of unrest and resistance. The movement, among peoples oppressed by their own ruling elites in alliance with imperialism, has sent shockwaves through Washington, London, Paris and the capitals of all the great powers."

Three killed, dozens injured in Iraqi protests
A quote...."(Reuters) - Three people were killed and dozens wounded in the southern Iraqi city of Kut on Wednesday in clashes between security forces and protesters demanding better basic services, police and hospital sources said."

Egyptian workers step up strike offensive
A quote...."Tens of the thousands of Egyptian workers ignored appeals by military high command and spread their strike actions across the country Wednesday, demanding higher pay, better working conditions, and the purging of corrupt officials linked to ousted dictator Hosni Mubarak."

Egypt protestors ignore calls for end of tumult, strikes continue
A quote...."Egyptian protestors on Thursday continued to stage nationwide strikes with no regard to calls from the country's leadership to end the upheavals and return to work, local media said."

The Middle East In Crisis - Coverage of These Events This Day:
Tuesday February 15th 2011...

The Fake Color Revolution is Back in Iran – Globalist Destabilization Efforts Under Cover of Egypt’s Real Revolution - Special Note - A quote...."Contrary to Julian Assange’s assessment, the current wave of pro-democracy movements in the Middle East (recently called a “virus” by John McCain) was not created by the CIA honeypot called Wikileaks. Nor, as the one-time Lyndon LaRouche follower Webster Tarpley has put it, was it all a CIA destabilization plan. There are causes that track back to the United States, English banks, and Wall Street which mainly deal with accelerating food prices due to rampant speculation, a global wave of unemployment due to a planned demolition of the global economy, and the despotic dictatorial rule by U.S. and British friendly puppet regimes, so yes, you can trace the roots of these outbreaks back to the global interests the CIA serves."

The End of the Mubarak Nazi Propaganda
Contains Video - Alt - The slaves are getting really ticked off. - mpg -- A quote...."The man who was being saved in the clip and was hurrying to get in to the elevator protected by the army and surrounded by violent protesters who wanted a piece of him was none other than Abdel Latif Al-Manawy , the head of the news sector in the Egyptian TV. This video was filmed last Sunday and those protesters who wanted a piece of him are not Al Tahrir protesters but rather the employees of the news sector who complained so much from his hypocrisy and corruption."

Helen Thomas: Egyptians Understand Their Power
Contains Video - Alt - (size window for best viewing) -- A quote...."If you didn’t send a Valentine’s Day card to Helen Thomas yesterday, you should be ashamed of yourself. In a recent interview with Laura Flanders of Grit TV, Helen pulls no punches and spells out what is and what needs to be."

Lessons from Asia: The real 'Egyptian Revolution' is yet to come
A quote...."If we look at other countries for comparison (and there are many recent examples of people’s power uprisings suddenly ending the reign of longstanding authoritarian regimes), I am especially struck by parallels with South Korea’s 1987 June Uprising, when for 19 consecutive days, hundreds of thousands of people illegally went into the streets and battled tens of thousands of riot police to a standstill. On June 29, 1987, the military dictatorship finally capitulated to the opposition’s demands to hold direct presidential elections, thereby ending 26 years of military rule."

THE NEW EGYPT - Is the revolution being co-opted?
A quote...."There may be a danger at this stage that the (dwindling) Egyptian middle class - to which many of the young revolutionaries belong - may privilege "stability", thus relaxing their concentration and mobilization over the past three weeks. The self-appointed "Committee of the Wise Men", for instance, is trying hard to hijack all the hard work propelled by the young revolutionaries by supporting just a minor "reform" of the constitution. -- A clash with the working classes - and the Egyptian countryside - may be looming. The Facebook kids are not exactly wily politicians. What needs to be extracted now is institutionalized commitments from the military junta, such as freedom of the press starting now, and the abolition of the emergency laws. For that the Facebook kids have to learn to negotiate - from a position of high moral authority conferred by the street." - also posted at Uruknet

Has There Been An Egyptian Revolution?
A quote...."I popped the champagne cork to celebrate the Egyptian people’s success in driving out of office the American puppet, Mubarak.  However, as I wrote on February 1, Mubarak’s departure doesn’t guarantee that his successor will not find himself wearing the same American harness.  As Gerald Celente puts it, “Meet the new boss, same as old boss.”

Egypt's Military Declares Martial Law
A quote...."World headlines are worrisome. On February 13, London's Guardian headlined Egypt's military rejects swift transfer of power and suspends constitution," saying: -- Ruling generals rejected protester demands, saying they intend "to rule by martial law until elections are held." The announcement followed suspension of constitutional rule, retention of Mubarak's cabinet, and military police head, Mohamed Ibrahim Moustafa Ali, ordering protesters out of Tahrir Square under threat of arrest." - also posted at Uruknet

Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt to Be Political Party
A quote...."CAIRO — The Muslim Brotherhood, the outlawed Islamic group that has long constituted Egypt’s main political opposition, said Tuesday that it would apply to become an official political party as soon as the necessary changes were made to the Egyptian Constitution."

Bahrain protesters rally for third day
A quote...."Thousands of pro-democracy Bahrainis have gathered in the capital Manama to protest the recent killing of two demonstrators by security forces."

Rioting In Bahrain Escalates, Third Protester Dies In Police Clashes
A quote....According to ABNA.ir, "Tens of Bahraini Army jeeps surrounded the main square and attacked the protesters. Thousands of Anti-Government protesters filled a main square in the Bahrain capital due to discriminations posed by the government. Security forces at first appeared to hold back as the crowds poured into Pearl Square in Manama...."

Yemen protests enter fifth day
A quote...."Thousands of people have protested in Yemen for a fifth consecutive day to demand political reforms and the overthrow of the country's president. - They were met by pro-government supporters, who waded into Tuesday's protest in Sanaa with batons, sparking violent clashes in which three people were hurt, the AFP news agency said." - also posted at Uruknet

Democracy Without Economic Independence is Worthless
A quote...."The Egyptian military, with a US green light, got rid of Mubarak for precisely the same reason they sent the police and thugs that killed over 300 and injured thousands last week — to allow for the economy to run smoothly again. In other words, the disposing of Mubarak is just another solution, as undesirable as it may be, to re-open banks and have business run as usual. Factories, banks, real state, and other businesses are still owned by the same corrupt leaders, with the fate of the Mubarak family stock still unknown." - also posted at AlethoNews

Egypt at Dawn's Early Light
A quote...."What's unfolding looks different than what protesters demand. World headlines partly reflect it, mostly outside America, especially on US television reporting an illusion of change, when, in fact, coup d'etat rule is in charge, headed by authoritarian generals used to giving, not taking orders." - Source:  SteveLendman

Egypt army rejects protesters' demands
A quote...."Egypt's military has rejected the demands of pro-democracy protesters for a swift transfer of power to a civilian administration, saying it will rule by martial law until presidential election is held in September."

Hold the Celebration: Egypt's Struggle Just Began
Must Read - A quote...."Hopefully beneath celebratory euphoria, Egyptians know ousting Mubarak was simple, especially since Washington long wanted him out. Covertly with Egypt's military, it facilitated long-planned regime purging for with new faces under old policies. In other words, have everything change but stay the same, a common imperial bait and switch con. -- As a result, the real liberating struggle continues against long odds for success because Washington, Egypt's military, Israel, Western powers, and big money will do everything to prevent it. The usual scheme was hatched - a facade of change that may or may not work, and will be months, maybe years, to know."

Mubarak's Gone, But....So What?  The Army's Now Running Things and all the Egyptians Have Are Promises. - Must Read -- And they're US-NRE "backed" promises, and everyone throughout the entire world knows how much those are worth. - mpg -- A quote...."Two weeks ago, shortly after the protests in Egypt started, the Israelis allowed some 800 Egyptian soldiers into the Sinai. They went to Sharm el-Sheik down on the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula on the Red Sea where the Israelis said they may be based. While the Israelis had allowed Egyptian police and security into the Sinai, this is the first time in thirty years that a contingent of the Egyptian army had been allowed in. -- Two weeks later, Mubarak is ousted from power and he leaves Cairo and heads off, not overseas into exile as one might expect of a ruthless dictator ousted by popular revolution, but to Sharm el-Sheik – where the 800 Egyptian troops are now based. -- While Mubarak has handed over power to the chiefs of the army ostensibly to oversee the transition to a democratic civilian government, one cannot blame the Egyptian people being more that bit wary of what is actually going on and maintaining their vigil in Tahrir Square."

America’s Strategic Repression of the ‘Arab Awakening’
Must Read - A quote...."This spurred on the development of an American strategy in the Arab world, modeled on similar strategies pursued in recent decades in other parts of the world, in promoting “democratization,” by developing close contacts with ‘civil society’ organizations, opposition leaders, media sources, and student organizations. The aim is not to promote an organic Arab democracy ‘of the people, and for the people,’ but rather to promote an evolutionary “democratization” in which the old despots of American strategic support are removed in favour of a neoliberal democratic system, in which the outward visible institutions of democracy are present (multi-party elections, private media, parliaments, constitutions, active civil society, etc); yet, the power-holders within that domestic political system remain subservient to U.S. economic and strategic interests, continuing to follow the dictates of the IMF and World Bank, supporting America’s military hegemony in the region, and “opening up” the Arab economies to be “integrated” into the world economy. "

A Revolting World - The Forces of Reaction never rest
Must Read - A quote...."Many in many lands are demonstrating against their governments. Some claim that people everywhere are revolting and that a worldwide revolution is imminent. Even both the orthodox and heterodox presses are all atwitter. But it is far easier to bring about a successful revolution than it is to build and preserve a humane, functioning government. The forces of reaction never rest, and they have managed to undo most of history's people's revolutions. Revolutionaries must recognize that their first task is to defend their newly formed governments from reactionaries, for once reactionaries get their feet in the door, they will not stop until the revolution is undone." - also posted at Hamsayeh

Visions; Failed Endeavors, and Wishful Optimism
Special Note - A quote...."“The will of the people is bound to prevail.” -- Yes, a fine sentiment.   But when has it ever and, when it has, how long did it last?  Freedom, Liberty and the dignity of man, must be built on more than slogans! Yes, hopefully.  And there have been days when it looked like we might be making some headway  but then, when we step back a few paces,  let the smoke clear a bit, it is apparent that we still have a long, long and difficult task ahead of us"

Iranian Speaker: US Not to Succeed in Misleading Egyptian Nation's Revolution
Quote of the Day...."TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani stressed on Sunday that Washington will fail in its plots to mislead and divert the uprising and revolution of the Egyptian people through supporting US-affiliated figures in the country."

With Mubarak, His New Cabinet, and Parliament all Gone, is Another U.S.S. Liberty Incident on the Horizon?  -- False Flag Alert - A quote...."The supreme council of the military, who are now in charge of Egypt, have not only gotten rid of the 30 year dictator Hosni Mubarak, but they have also gotten rid of his entire cabinet and both houses of parliament."

Post-Mubarak era dawns on Egypt
Contains Video - Remarkable18Days - A quote...."Egyptians have woken to a new dawn after 30 years of rule under Hosni Mubarak. -- As the Muslim call to prayer reverberated across Cairo on Saturday, the sound of horns honking in jubilation could still be heard after a night when millions celebrated the fall of the president, who has handed over power to the military. -- After 18 days of rallies at Cairo's Tahrir Square, resisting police assaults and a last-ditch raid by Mubarak supporters, people packed not just the epicentre but, it seemed, every street and neighbourhood of the capital. Similar was the scene in other cities and towns across the country." - also posted at Uruknet

'Egypt fed up with foreign bullying - people won't accept new stooge'
Must View RTVideo - Alt - (YuTb - 9min 46sec - February 12, 2011) - Source:  RussiaToday -- A quote...."Mubarak's steely determination not to resign was broken as he stepped down as president on Friday. Egyptians spent all night celebrating the end of his 30-year regime. The renowned author and middle east expert Tariq Ali believes the U.S. was playing a risky game during the days of the Egyptian unrest."

Nasser and now
A quote...."This is the most uplifting, invigorating and exhilarating historical experience since the days of the Suez Crisis. The parallel with the people's power, the spontaneous uprising that brought my father to power, especially heartens me. And above all when my father resigned in the aftermath of the Six Day War of 1967 only to be urged by the masses to continue in office," Hoda Abdel-Nasser, daughter of the late president Gamal Abdel-Nasser and political science professor at Cairo University told Al-Ahram Weekly." - also posted at Uruknet

Protesters form council to defend Egypt revolution
A quote...."CAIRO (Reuters) – Some organisers of the protests that toppled Egypt's Hosni Mubarak said on Saturday they were forming a council to defend the revolution and negotiate with a military council now running the country. - They threatened to call for more demonstrations if the military failed to meet the "people's demands"."

The workers, middle class, military junta and the permanent revolution
A quote...."Since yesterday, and actually earlier, middle class activists have been urging Egyptians to suspend the protests and return to work, in the name of patriotism, singing some of the most ridiculous lullabies about “let’s build new Egypt,” “Let’s work harder than even before,” etc… In case you didn’t know, actually Egyptians are among the hardest working people in the globe already. - Those activists want us to trust Mubarak’s generals with the transition to democracy–the same junta that has provided the backbone of his dictatorship over the past 30 years." - also posted at AlethoNews

Is this a ‘Young Turks’ moment all over again? By William Bowles
A quote...."Mubarak steps down, surely the result of direct US pressure. But what difference will it make, the country has been run by a military clique for three decades, all that’s changed is that now they do it openly. The real issue, is what next? Will the masses now press for Sulieman, all of them to step down now? It’s possible, it depends on what the army and the security-state forces do next, after the euphoria has died down." - also posted at Uruknet

Army and protesters disagree over Egypt's path to democracy
A quote...."Egypt's new military administration and the pro-democracy protesters who brought down Hosni Mubarak are at odds over the path to democratic rule. -- The army sought to stave off pressure from jubilant protesters to swiftly hand power to a civilian-led administration by saying that it was committed to a "free democratic state"." - also posted at Uruknet

The revolution continues after Mubarak's fall
A quote...."Yesterday evening, after it was announced that Hosni Mubarak had met the first demand of the revolution and left office, I headed toward the Egyptian embassy in Amman. The joy on the streets was something I had never experienced before." - also posted at AlethoNews & PoorRichard'sBlog

Egyptians hold firm at Liberation sq
A quote...."Pro-democracy protesters in Egypt have rejected army's appeal to leave Cairo's Liberation Square, persisting on the demand for a civilian government two days after the downfall of Hosni Mubarak."

Egypt army vows to respect treaties
A quote...."One day after the ouster of President Hosni Mubarak, Egypt's military authorities have said that they will respect all international treaties. - Egypt's Supreme Council of the Armed Forces says Cairo will remain committed to all its regional and international treaties. - Experts have interpreted this as Cairo implying its peace treaty with Israel will remain intact."

Ain't That Good News!
Special Note - A quote...."We raise our glass to the Egyptian people. In the end Mubarak propelled them to irresistible fury with his dotty broadcast on Thursday. It seems that for some years now he’s been drifting in and out of senile dementia, same way Reagan did in his second term. The plan had been to run his son Gamal in the last elections, but that turned out to be a non-starter so they rolled the semi-gaga Hosni out one more time and fixed the results, ringingly endorsed by the US.  On Thursday morning Mubarak probably told Suleiman and the US that he was going to quit, then forgot and, braced by a supportive call from the Israelis and a pledge by the Saudis to give him $1.4 billion if the US withheld it, announced that he would be around till September."

The Emerging Counter-Revolutions in Tunisia and Egypt
Counter Revolution Warning - A quote...."An arrogant pharaoh has fallen. Egyptians may be chanting that their country is free, but their struggle is far from over. The United Arab Republic of Egypt is not free yet. The old regime and its apparatus are still very much in place and waiting for the dust to settle. The Egyptian military is officially in control of Egypt and the counter-revolution is emerging. A new phase of the struggle for liberty has started. -- The so-called regime-desired "transitional phases" in Tunisia and Egypt are being used to buy time in order to do three things. The first objective is to erode and eventually break the people's popular demands. The second goal is to work to preserve neo-liberal economic policies, which will be used to subvert the political system, and to tighten the straightjacket of external debts. Finally, the third motivation and objective is the preparation of counter-revolution."

There has been NO REVOLUTION so far
A quote...."A despicable tyrant has gone, but the army that imposed the will of that despicable tyrant for 30 years is now in charge and the Egyptian army is not only controlled by the US, it is funded by massive American military 'aid' - second only in scale to Israel."

The Empire is Alive and Well (and So Is Its Relationship With Israel) - American Duplicity in Egypt  -- A quote...."It is now apparent that the White House has three primary policy objectives in Egypt.  First, and foremost, Israeli security must be preserved at all cost.  That is our number one priority.  Second, we must allay any fears which our authoritarian Arab allies may have of possible abandonment by the United States.  We will remain loyal to even the most repressive of these Arab states come hell or high water.  Third, while pretending to be sympathetic to the pleas of the anti-government demonstrators for freedom and democracy, our objective is to restore the status quo in Egypt as soon as possible.  The Empire intends to remain in charge."

Mubarak resignation staggers Obama administration
A quote...."Obama administration officials reacted to yesterday’s ouster of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak with hypocritical declarations of solidarity with the democratic aspirations of the Egyptian masses. Mubarak May Step Down Tonight – “Egypt is Changing”
Egypt's Military Backs the Revolution??  - A quote...."Thousands are celebrating in Tahrir Square.  It’s being reported that the Egyptian military went to President Mubarak and told him to step aside.  Military representatives went to the square earlier and told the people that ALL their demands will be answered. Another blogger on the ground there said that the military members were telling them that if they were ordered to fire on the protesters, then they would fire on the military commanders who gave them the order. The regime’s pillars are crumbling. Yesterday, the demonstrators surged out of Tahrir Square and marched towards the National Assembly and the building that houses the Ministry of Interior. Crowds Shred the Lies of the Power Players - On the Streets of Cairo
Must Read - Some quotes...."Newspapers ran pictures of the "nearly empty" Tahrir Square, sometimes in tandem with pictures of last week's massive crowds. We saw shots of Egyptians "getting back to normal life" -- going to the bank, shopping for shoes, crossing the street in [a] suit, tie and briefcase on the way to the office....." -- "It was all a lie, part of the remarkably witless self-delusion that has afflicted the Washington-Cairo power structure from the beginning of the uprising: the illusion that they are still in control of events, that they can tinker a bit here, recalibrate a bit there, and still end up with the same system of elite domination and corruption basically in place." - Source:  EmpireBurlesque

Robert Fisk: Week 3, day 16, and with every passing hour, the regime digs in deeper  -- Must Read - A quote...."Blood turns brown with age. Revolutions do not. Vile rags now hang in a corner of the square, the last clothes worn by the martyrs of Tahrir: a doctor, a lawyer among them, a young woman, their pictures strewn above the crowds, the fabric of the T-shirts and trousers stained the colour of mud. But yesterday, the people honoured their dead in their tens of thousands for the largest protest march ever against President Hosni Mubarak's dictatorship, a sweating, pushing, shouting, weeping, joyful people, impatient, fearful that the world may forget their courage and their sacrifice." - also posted at ICH

Egypt's Berlin Wall moment
Must Read - A quote...."The outcomes of these movements for change in the Arab world is not yet knowable - and will not become clear for months, if not years, to come. It is crucial for supporters on the scene - and around the world - not to become complacent, as it is certain that those with entrenched interests in the old oppressive and exploitative order are seeking to restore former conditions to the greatest extent possible, or at least salvage what they can." - also posted at ICH

CRISIS IN EGYPT - Bread, dignity and lies
Special Note - A quote...."Osama Saraya, editor-in-chief of the pro-government newspaper al-Ahram, who was there when Suleiman uttered his sinister warnings, is assured he meant not only a military coup, but an Islamist coup as well. -- The street reaction was swift. The sit-in in front of parliament - a second front beside Tahrir Square - is now permanent; thousands of protesters have already forced military junta member turned Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq to relocate to the Civil Aviation Ministry on the other side of Cairo. Recapitulation: the current military junta in power is Suleiman, Shafiq, Field Marshal Mohammed Hussein Tantawi (minister of defense for 20 years now) and Lieutenant General Sami Annan (the army chief)."

America’s Strategic Repression of the ‘Arab Awakening’
Special Note - A quote...."In Part 1 of this series, I analyzed the changing nature of the Arab world, in experiencing an uprising as a result of the ‘Global Political Awakening.’ Ultimately, I assessed that these could potentially be the birth pangs of a global revolution; however, the situation is more complicated than it appears on the surface. --  While the uprisings spreading across the Arab world have surprised many observers, the same could not be said for the American foreign policy and strategic establishment. A popular backlash against American-supported dictatorships and repressive regimes has been anticipated for a number of years, with arch-hawk geopolitical strategist Zbigniew Brzezinski articulating a broad conception of a ‘Global Political Awakening’ taking place, in which the masses of the world (predominantly the educated, exploited and impoverished youth of the ‘Third World’) have become acutely aware of their subjugation, inequality, exploitation and oppression." - also posted at Creative-i

Let’s Go to Plan B
A quote...."What exactly is happening in Egypt and what is the United States interest in events there? Well, to put it simply, Egypt has been ruled for thirty years by a dictator who has not hesitated to kill or torture his own people. His military, which is his primary support, has received massive assistance from Washington, totaling more than $60 billion, as a bribe for Egypt’s betrayal of the Palestinians through its signing of a peace treaty with Israel that has enabled the latter to dismember the last vestiges of a possible Palestinian state. Apart from wanting to prop up a dubious arrangement whereby Israel’s most powerful neighbor is neutralized, the United States has no vital interest whatsoever in talking nice to Egypt. The claim that a hostile Egypt might close the Suez Canal is nonsensical as the country relies heavily on the income that it generates, whoever is in charge."

The Division of Egypt: Threats of US, Israeli, and NATO Military Intervention?
A quote...."The parable of the Arab dictators is like that of the spider's web. Although the spider feels safe in its web, in reality the web is one of the frailest homes. All the Arab dictators and tyrants, from Morocco to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, are in fear now. Egypt is on the brink of what could amount to being one of the most important geo-political events in this century."

Washington: How Best to Shape the Middle East Playing Field?
A quote...."Shapiro’s insistence that no cookie-cutter is adequate to the complexities of the Middle East is belied by both the uniformity of US Arab allies’ domestic and foreign policies and the quick succession of almost identical protests. The last 30 years have witnessed a cookie-cutter scenario of a US-supported secular government which persecuted Islamists and opened the nation to the depredations of neoliberalism and tourism through a US-educated and armed elite which amassed vast fortunes. It is hardly surprising that the dispossessed finally exploded in fury."

Labor Actions in Egypt Boost Protests
A quote...."CAIRO — Labor strikes and worker protests that flared across Egypt on Wednesday affected post offices, textile factories and even the government’s flagship newspaper, providing a burst of momentum to protesters demanding the resignation of President Hosni Mubarak, even as his government pushed back with greater force against the opponents’ demands."

The Egyptian working class moves to the forefront
A quote...."During the past few days a steady stream of reports has confirmed the increasingly decisive role of the Egyptian working class in the struggle against the Mubarak regime. While the mass assemblies and clashes in Tahrir Square in Cairo have been the focal point of media coverage, the growing wave of working class militancy—in the form of protest demonstrations and strikes—will have a greater impact on the course of events."

Egypt protesters fear revenge if Mubarak holds on - And they're absolutely right to fear so! - mpg
A quote...."Associated Press= CAIRO (AP) — The trappings of a determined protest movement — chanting, flags and raised fists — fill Tahrir Square, the hard-won enclave of those who seek a new Egypt. But some there fear an enemy in their midst."

Report: Egypt used Israeli technology to disable state's internet
A quote...."OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)-- Egypt used advanced Israeli technology to disable the internet across the nation during the first week of popular revolutionary protests that began January 25, the Israeli Yediot Ahronot newspaper said. -- The ruling regime was forced to ask for Israeli technology experts to block the internet in order to curb the swelling of protests that eventually demanded the ouster of President Mubarak, Ynet reported Wednesday." - also posted at Uruknet

Suleiman is old friends with the CIA
RTVideo - (RTYuTb - 6min 56sec February 09, 2011) - Source:  RTAmerica -- A quote...."Egypt's Vice-President Omar Suleiman is the nation's former spy chief, a friend of the US, a reported torturer, and has long been touted as the next presidential successor. Referred by some Egyptians as another Mubarak, Suleiman is the CIA's man in Egypt, having worked with the agency for years, with increased importance following 9/11, explained Lisa Hajjar, an associate professor of sociology at UC Santa Barbara."

Rendition: America's Torturers for Hire in Egypt
A quote...."At a February 4 press conference, U.S. President Barack Obama said about the Mubarak government's response to the protests, "Suppression is not going to work. Engaging in violence is not going to work." Obama and other U.S. officials are now condemning the thuggish nature of the Mubarak regime—but the indisputable fact is that the U.S. has long relied on Mubarak and other oppressive regimes in the region to commit numerous savage crimes." - also posted at Uruknet

US Warns Egyptians Against Revoking the Humiliating 1979 Peace Treaty With Israel
A quote...."Hamsayeh.Net - US government official sternly warned any future Egyptian government against revoking its peace treaty with Israel. Robert Gibbs, spokesman for the white House, told reporters Washington stands firmly against revoking peace agreements with Israel by any future government after Hosni Mubarak."

Egyptian Revolution Update: More Turn Out for Protests, While Obama Backs Mubarak and Sends in the Marines -- Must Read - A quote.....The Egyptian people grow more and more inspiring by the day.  Neither Mubarak, Suleiman, or even Obama will deter them. -- Today saw even more people gather in Tehrir Square and other protests all across Egypt as their dictator “president” still clings to power.  His CIA linked Vice President Suleiman proclaims that Egypt isn’t ready for democracy and that these protests “can’t be allowed” to go on much longer. Meanwhile, in an ominous development, President Obama has tacitly endorsed Mubarak’s retaining power till the “elections” and sent a marine strike force to Egypt to wait in the wings. Wanna bet which side they’ll take if Suleiman turns the Egyptian military against their own people?"

Counter-revolution brought to you by ...
Must Read - A quote...."It will be a long, winding, treacherous and perhaps bloody road before the popular Egyptian revolution even dreams of approaching the post-Suharto Indonesian model (the largest, most plural democracy in a Muslim-majority country) or the current Turkish model (also sanctioned at the ballot box). -- As predicted (Rage, rage against the counter-revolution - Asia Times Online, February 1) the counter-revolution is on, and brought by the usual suspects; the Egyptian army; Mubarakism's comprador elites; and the triad of Washington, Tel Aviv and European capitals."

A quote...."Talk about a rollercoaster! If someone had told me two weeks ago that millions of demonstrators would throng the squares of Egypt and the government would shut down mobile phones, bar access to the Internet, close the banks and try to enforce a 3 pm to 7am curfew I would have laughed."

As Tahrir Square goes so goes the Middle East?
A quote...."Less than one week after few outside Egypt had heard of or much less could locate on a blank map of Cairo, “Tahrir Square” the World now realizes it as the epicenter of  the Middle East’s unfolding and unpredictable earthquake event.  The Tahrir Square uprising has led to one Arab diplomat, currently posted to Beirut, observing yesterday: “If there were to be an Arab League meeting this week attended by all the Arab Heads to State, an honest participant might suggest to the assembled potentates to look to their right and then look to their left and realize that in perhaps 24 months close one third may not be attending subsequent Arab League summits."

Protesters attack police stations in several Egyptian provinces
Something for police everywhere to think about....they should not count on that uniform too much, it DOES NOT grant them a license to violate anybody's unalienable rights and it WILL NOT protect them when they do so. - mpg -- A quote...."In Barambel Village in Helwan, south of Cairo, residents set the local police station on fire after a police officer shot and killed a local resident for violating the curfew. --  The resident had gone out during curfew hours on Monday night and was shot to death after failing to respond to the police officer's warnings. He was killed instantly. --  Following the incident, village residents torched the police station in which the officer was taking cover, leading to the death of the officer and total destruction of the station and its civil registry. Other police personnel managed to escape before they were caught by residents." - bold by website editor

Nationwide protests haunt Mubarak
A quote...."Egyptian people again pack the streets of major cities and refuse to take a step back from their campaign to topple out-of-favor President Hosni Mubarak. -- In a show of power, Egyptian protesters rallied to the Interior Ministry and Parliament in central Cairo and surrounded the two buildings for a while before returning to the Liberation Square."

Egyptian Military’s ‘Neutrality’ Wavers, Crackdowns Begin
Related Article - Of course, it took the US-NRE's CIA, Israel's Mossad and Suleiman and his cohorts a while to figure out who was "reliable" and who wasn't (i.e. who could be paid to do murder and serve Israel's interests and who was an honorable soldier of Egypt's armed forces).  Now, very soon, the long knives will come out.  It's gonna be a blood bath.  Way to go Amerika. Cheers for your so-called "freedom and democracy" - mpg

The Middle East In Crisis - Coverage of These Events This Day:
Saturday February 5th 2011...

Moment of Reckoning for Arabs
Quote of the Day...."While a mesmerized world watches history being made in Egypt and the Middle East, what has endlessly fascinated me is the reaction of the self-styled champion of democracy, and its other equally democratic and freedom loving allies. For days after the unprecedented protests that have shaken not just the Middle East but the world at large, one breathlessly waited in vain to hear the White House say the ‘D’ word. -- As demands for change reverberate across this vast land of great contradictions, home to three great faiths, the hypocrisy separating the West's words and actions is breathtaking--almost obscene."

Who is the Real Opposition in Egypt?
Second Quote of the Day...."The revolution in Egypt erupted like all revolutions do, from the bottom up. It was unemployment and high food prices that propelled working and poor people into action. Now, the media reports that the "opposition” in Egypt is a group of well-to-do folks who have very little in common with the poor of Egypt. -- This top down takeover of the revolution is being engineered with the support of the U.S. and European nations, the same allies of the dictatorship that lasted three decades. If this elite group of Egyptians manages to gain power, they'll soon find themselves confronted with the real opposition of Egypt, the overwhelming majority of working and poor people." - also posted at CounterCurrents

"It's Great to Witness that the Determination of the People is Much More Stronger And the Result is Much Greater than the intimidation and the oppression of the government" -- Video Interview & Analysis - (PRSTv - 26min 10sec - Sun Feb 6, 2011 6:56AM) -- A quote...."Press TV interviews Author and Journalist, Ramzy Baroud from Seattle, [Co-Director of the International Action Center Sara Flanders in New York, and Ali Hijazi of United Egyptians in London] to discuss the issue further"

Pro-Democracy Protesters Still Hold Tahrir Square While the Globalists Try to Hold The World -- A quote...."Al Jazeera has live coverage….  (while Anderson Cooper hides in a hotel room) -- The corrupt Egyptian government seems to be adopting a war of attrition approach to this latest crisis. After the international beating they took in the aftermath of the violence caused when Mubarak’s thugs attacked peaceful protesters and journalists alike, it now seems that the globalists like Hillary Clinton have advised a hands-off approach to winning this war.  There is no telling what is happening away from the spot-light of Tahrir Square, but they are certainly using a different tactic in the light of day."

Square Stalemate: Pressure piles on Mubarak as D-Day brings no news
RTVideo - Alt - (RTYuTb - 5min 14sec - February 05, 2011) - Source:  RussiaToday -- A quote...."Anti-government protesters in Egypt are still pouring onto Cairo's Tahrir Square as they pile the pressure on President Hosni Mubarak to step down. The deadline set by demonstrators for him to quit passed on Friday without Mubarak making any statement."

Egypt 13th protests day, Day of Martyrs
A quote...."Anti-government protests in troubled Egypt have entered its 13th consecutive day as Cairo's Liberation Square remains flooded with demonstrators who call on President Hosni Mubarak to immediately step down."

France Suspends Arms, Riot Equipment Sales To Egypt
Hip Hip Hooray! Viva la France! Viva la différence!!
A quote...."PARIS - France on Feb. 5 said it had suspended sales of arms and riot police equipment to Egypt amid mass protests pressing for President Hosni Mubarak to step down."

Critical Connections - Egypt, the US and the Israel Lobby
A quote...."Minimally explored in all the coverage of the momentous Egyptian uprising taking place over the last 10 days are the Israeli connections. -- A central and critical reality is that it is US tax money that has propped up Hosni Mubarak’s despotic regime over the past 30 years, and that this money has flowed, from the beginning, largely on behalf of Israel. -- Israel is generally a significant factor in events in the Middle East, and to understand ongoing happenings it is important to understand the historic and current Israeli connections." - also posted at Intifada-VoP

Israeli Spy Arrest in Egypt Points to High Stakes for Washington and Tel Aviv
A quote...."An amateur video showing the arrest in Egypt of an alleged spy belonging to the Israeli General Staff Reconnaissance Unit, the Sayeret Matkal, indicates how worried Tel Aviv is by the turmoil engulfing the Mubarak regime and suggests that attempts are underway by outside forces to destabilise the popular revolution."

Mubarak's [And The US-NRE/AIPAC/Israeli Consortium's] New Tactic --  A War Of Attrition -- A quote...."As well as playing a game of musical chairs with the leaders of the ruling NDP party. (Somewhat ironically the NDP in Canada refers to the New Democratic Party rather than the National Democratic Party as in Egypt. The NDP in Canada is a leftish opposition party.) Although it was earlier reported that Mubarak too had resigned his party position this turned out not to be true. Even if he did he would still be president."

Obama’s Egypt Plan: Mubarak-ism Without Mubarak
A quote...."With the Obama administration trying to impose Mubarak-ism with Mubarak, easing the old lizard-headed dictator out and ushering in Omar Suleiman – recently appointed Vice President and formerly Egypt’s top intelligence official and torturer-in-chief –  there may be a slight glitch. Aside, that is, from the fact that the protest movement will never agree."

Oppose US-backed “transition” in Egypt
A quote...."The mass movement of Egyptian working people against the Mubarak dictatorship must oppose and reject the initiative by the American government to replace Mubarak with a military-dominated “transition” government. This maneuver is aimed at safeguarding the interests of imperialism and the Egyptian ruling elite, and aborting the Egyptian Revolution." - also posted at Uruknet

From Counter-Attack to Departure Day - Mubarak's Last Gasps
Must Read - A quote...."According to the CIA's declassified documents and records, senior CIA operative, Kermit Roosevelt, paid $100,000 to mobsters in Tehran, in early August 1953, to hire the most feared thugs to stage pro-Shah riots. -- Other CIA-paid men were brought weeks later, on August 19, into Tehran in buses and trucks to take over the streets, topple the democratically elected Iranian government, and restore Shah Reza Pahlavi to his thrown. It took the people of Iran 26 years, enormous sacrifices, and a popular revolution to overthrow the imposed, corrupt and repressive rule of the Shah. -- This lesson was not lost on the minds of a small clique of officials who were meeting in desperation in the afternoon of Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, in Cairo." - also posted at ICH

The Arab Nationalist Reawakening in Egypt and Beyond
Must Read - A quote...."Both the United States and Hosni Mubarak’s regime seek “stability” for Egypt – by which they mean continuity of grotesque social and economic inequalities, institutionalized thievery and perpetual subservience to U.S. imperialism and Israeli terror. The current “revolution” – the people’s own word for what is occurring – seeks to destabilize the oppressive and humiliating status quo, and thereby make human dignity and hope possible. -- To preserve the stability of his comprador regime, which has made itself indispensable to U.S. imperial strategies in the region, Mubarak threatens to plunge Egypt into chaos – to make the society scream. His huge police force, a portion of which appeared to have disintegrated in last week’s test of wills with the people, now roams Cairo, spreading mayhem in order to justify the return of the police state, while a mobilized people attempt to preserve neighborhood order and safety against Mubarak’s roving bands."

The Fake Moderation of America's Moderate Mideast Allies
Must Read - A quote...."As the Mubarak regime turns to violence in a vain attempt to repress the peaceful protests that have swept Egypt’s streets for over ten days, the risks associated with current U.S. strategy for Egypt and the wider region continue to grow. In its response to the events, the Obama administration has subtly shifted its message, incrementally increasing pressure on the regime over the last week. But the more important story is the remarkable continuities reflected in the administration’s approach." - also posted at ICH

For Mideast Regimes, U.S. Backing Means Absolute Power
Must Read - A quote...."February 04, 2011 "Haaretz" -- A wave of popular uprisings in the Middle East is sending a clear message to those in power − and those who aspire to be in power − in the Arab world. Together with the release of several sets of leaked secret documents, they are making it clear that one should never bet on America’s horse. -- “America’s horse” is the Arab leader who is backed by the United States and given a license to rule however he deems appropriate, as long as he doesn’t threaten Israel’s security or other American interests in the region. In return, he is allowed to abuse human rights and deny his people economic and political rights. With America’s sanction, and under the banner of fighting Islamic fundamentalism, he can crush any opposition that arises." - also posted at ICH

Egypt - The Peoples' Voices

It's the latest show of force to try and make President Hosni Mubarak leave office. The 11th day of the uprising is being labeled "Final Friday" by the Egyptian opposition, which has dismissed Mubarak's promise to quit in September."

Johann Hari: We all helped suppress the Egyptians. So how do we change?
Quote of the Day....."An elderly thug is trying to buy and beat and tear-gas himself enough time to smuggle his family's estimated $25bn in loot out of the country, and to install a successor friendly to his interests. The Egyptian people – half of whom live on less than $2 a day – seem determined to prevent the pillage and not to wait until September to drive out a dictator dripping in blood and bad hair dye." - also posted at ICH

A report urged the people of Egypt to watch for a violent counter-revolution being planned by the US President and his cohorts. -- It warned that the CIA agent Frank G. Obama Treats Egypt like a Banana Republic

Digital Darkness: U.S., U.K. Companies Help Egyptian Regime Shut Down Telecommunications and Identify Dissident Voices - A quote...."Doing the regime’s bidding, British-based Vodafone shut down Egypt’s phone and internet service. The American company called Narus — owned by Boeing — sold Egypt the surveillance technology that helped identify dissident voices. We are joined by Tim Karr of Free Press and CUNY Professor C.W. Karr outlines how communications was shut down in Egypt and discusses the Protecting Cyberspace as a National Asset Act, a proposed Senate bill that could lay the foundation for blocking communications in the United States in the case of a "national threat." Egypt: Retrofitting "Operation Ajax" to Support the Pharaoh against the People
A quote....""As soon as I saw the defiant tone and substance of Mubarak's speech, I realized that he is not speaking for himself but for the US/Israeli sponsors. . . .  I just read the speech by Obama: it confirmed my suspicion, that basically Mubarak was permitted by the US to do with the Egyptian people as he would like.  Every drop of blood that is spilled in Egypt from this day onwards should be blamed on Obama because he has embraced this new strategy of letting Mubarak defy the popular will of the Egyptian people.  I don't trust the Egyptian army: the top brass is handpicked by the US/Israel and can be easily bought off by a combination of bribes, gadgets, and perks...."

Loosing the Goons: The Mubarak-Obama Move to Crush Egypt’s Uprising
A quote...."I must agree with As’ad AbuKhalil: The violence we are seeing in Egypt today (Wednesday) is a direct result of a green-light from Washington to “do what it takes” to preserve the Cairo regime. Today we have suddenly seen hundreds of “pro-Mubarak” goons pouring into the public squares to attack the non-violent demonstrators. The Egyptian Army – whom most of the demonstrators had lauded and looked to for protection from the police – is now apparently refusing to interfere with the attacks by the goon squads against the unarmed protestors. The UN reports that at least 300 people have already been killed in violence against the demonstrators since the uprising began: this number will now rise, perhaps sharply." - also posted at Uruknet

Obama’s Pathetic Pro-Mubarak Propaganda

They came to Tahrir Square in the morning, some even came days ago and haven't left since, and all day long they energetically called for the ouster of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. Who's to cut off the head of the snake?
Special Note - A quote...."Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's defiant dismissal of the will of the people came after an about-turn on three decades of support by Washington that amounted to a mealy-mouthed call for "orderly transition". The military elite is the only weapon available to hasten Mubarak's understanding of the word "now"."

Israel’s Fears Over Egyptian Uprising a Very Good Sign for People of the Middle East
A quote...."Anyone who knows anything about the regime of Egyptian dictator, Hosni Mubarak, knows that one of the main roles of his government has been to protect and buffer Israel (and its illegal and genocidal crimes against the Palestinians). So, recent reports that Israel is afraid and worried about the Egyptian revolution [1] is a cause for celebration for all Arabs everywhere and for all those who stand against injustice, colonial apartheid, and Israel’s illegal and brutal occupation of the Palestinians."

Rage, rage against counter-revolution
Must Read - A quote...."Islamophobes of the world, shut up and listen to the sound of people power. Your artificial Middle East dichotomy - it's either "our" dictators or jihadism - was never more than a cheap trick. Political repression, mass unemployment and rising food prices are more lethal than an army of suicide bombers. This is the actual way history is written; a country of 80 million - two-thirds of which born after their dictator came to power in 1981, and no less than the heart of the Arab world - finally shatters the Wall of Fear and crosses to the side of self-respect." - also posted at Uruknet

Israel: We Destroyed Iraq.. Iraq must Stay Divided and Isolated… The Oil of Northern Iraq will Flow into Israel! -- A quote...."Avi Dichter, the Israeli Internal Security Minister, said in a lecture at the ‘Israeli National Security Research Center’ “about the Israeli role in destroying Iraq after it was occupied in 2003 “we achieved in Iraq more than we expected and plan!” Dichter confirmed that keeping Iraq weak and isolated is an Israeli national interest. -- “Weakening and isolating Iraq is no less important than weakening and isolating Egypt,”  he said. Weakening and isolating Egypt done by diplomatic methods while everything is done to do achieve a complete and comprehensive isolation to Iraq”, Dachter added." - Topix ||  US Sponsored Civil Wars - Iraq  ||  The Method - 05-07-07 - mpg  ||

Israel sends SOS to world leaders to "save" Mubarak
A quote...."Hebrew newspaper sources have revealed the existence of an "urgent" message [order?] sent by the Israeli government at the end of last week to a number of world leaders [AIPAC/Israeli butt-kissers?]. Aimed particularly at the US [a.k.a. Israel's North American colony] and the EU [not a colony....yet], Israel is appealing to the leaders to "save" Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's regime. [a.k.a. Torturers, Jailers, Spies Lead Egypt’s ‘New’ Government
A quote...."Dissidents demanding the end of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak’s regime had better hope they don’t end up under arrest. The first members of Mubarak’s new cabinet — a face-lift so he can stay in power — are heavily involved in the apparatus of state repression, including a spymaster who worked with the U.S. to torture terrorist suspects."
